Grupo Femagohas 100 hectares of its own land where it grows food and carries out research into growing methods, sanitation, soil and structures. The group has always maintained a very strict production policy that has allowed it to produce first class fruit and vegetables that anticipated the market's tastes and met buyers expectations. The best way to achieve this is to take into consideration the needs and capacities of all the actors in the product cycle. The result of these efforts has been to endow Femago with huge know-how in the fields of:
- Creation of greenhouse structures
- Cultivation on all available soil types (organic) and hydroponic (artificial).
- Managing water resources on any type of soil in southern Spain (marsh, desert, sand-based, etc.)
- Maintaining and researching Integrated Pest Management.
- Human resources management for collection and for optimising the sowing/harvest/collection/sale cycle.
Almería is one of the best regions in the world for managing water supplies on a day to day basis. Being one of the regions that receives least rainfall in Europe, and the one with the largest desert, it is a place that is well aware of the fundamental nature of the available resources and of how to best use everydrop without harming the environment. Intensive greenhouse cultivation is one of the main subjects for R+D in this region.
Almería is, arguably, the region that returns the highest percentage of water into the air via plant transpiration in the world (about 96%). Our agricultural engineers are real specialists in resource management. In a 100 kilometre area we find dozens of different types of water.
